We have been absolutely enthralled by the @irisvanherpen show now at @qagoma 🙌🏼 What sublime beauty, curiously, innovation, senses and paradox, tranquility and movement at play in van Herpen’s work! ‘Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses’ is an immersive experience. We swooned in this fashion show as each garment is so beguiling, and were startled too by her headwear, shoes and sketches! Curated beautifully in this exhibition with other stunning artists, designers and details from our natural world. Inspired anew to create meaningfully with PAVARDA! Celebrating an amazing collaborator, our daughter! She’s pictured here under a mountain of old hats we were upcycling and macguyvering to design our early prototypes, and sketched by Kathryn as we were exploring words and feelings behind our brand * This kid has been a key player in Pavarda getting started ✨ One of our fave nicknames for her is LIGHTSTORM, which she made up one imaginative young day… And yes, LIGHTSTORM is a confident force of nature. She loves talking over paradoxes with us, singing to be a star and maths for fun, and riding her motorbike and inventing new designs, and playing pretend and fighting Jiujitsu, and millions of things. Now 9 years wise, this multitalented and hilarious fashionista has always been our muse and motivation ⚡️ With slow fashion we strive for Pavarda to be part of positive change for her future, and for all life on Earth, with appreciation for our ancestors and yours. We’re building our purposeful business ethically and sustainably, aiming to make impact with culture and with regenerative agriculture. Meaning ‘hearth’, the word Pavarda comes from Latvia, which is part of her and Mike’s heritage. This word carries much heart and tradition, as from ancient times we humans gather around fire to keep warm and connected, cook food and stay safe, and to share stories and wisdom. With Pavarda we are working with exquisite artists, makers and innovators. Our designs are composed of unique artworks and stories, which we can’t wait to share with you! With storytelling we embrace our origins, interconnections and futures. * Scribbled in the sketch, “Sei umarmt” is an old fashioned way to say ‘feel embraced’ or ‘be hugged’ in German, and grammatical variations of this beautiful phrase. Co-founder Kathryn reflects here about how helpful this can be, and writes about more life experiments in our blog - link in stories ✨ As Kathryn explains… “Ow, 100% is a vivid way to live, love and grow! When I hit the wall doing #allthethings for PAVARDA and our goals, it’s a invitation. When I feel fearful or trapped, or want to play safe with nice defences and ninja problemsolvjng, when I seek to be liked and admired, or notice other unhelpful old stories and behaviours 🫥 I’m pausing to tune in… Sometimes I simply need to give myself rest. Or a sandwich. I might pick up my pen and draw, and I love moving my body and shifting gaze to bigger horizons. And I feel into that uncomfortable feeling and let myself change as it changes. I can ask to be heard, for help, or sometimes simply a hug. I find ways to care for myself in ways that are nourishing. A decision or desire or curiosity arises, in its own time. TBH, sometimes that’s a much longer time than I’d like 🤬 and this can be overwhelming to navigate. So thank you to my loves, friends, inspirations and all the helpers that make themselves known in life! With this experiment, I’m all in. And when I forget, just practise again, it seems to be getting easier… It opens up space, to wholeheartedly create and state my truth with integrity and respect. Loving the details. Our Xanthorrea grass trees grow so beautifully slowly, and dazzled us today with tiny blossoms on the flower spikes rising tall above us 😍 As much as we carefully curate and cultivate our garden, plants have their own teachings, speculation and surprises to share. I often wonder what we may hear if we knew how best to listen! Good things take time. Always learning this in new and ardently challenging ways! While plants grow and seasons shift, we’re also now focusing on new hat details for Pavarda’s launch.
